Activities
The activities of the Centre include Community Training Programmes for different categories of society on different topics, Teacher Training Programmes, Rural Science Camp, Workshops, Vacation Hobby Courses, Science Fair.
Sky Observation Programme through Telescope
The centre organises sky observation programmes on every Saturday and Sunday from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. Public can view celestial objects like planets, stars, moon through telescope. Special arrangements are also made to observe celestial phenomena such as eclipses, transits etc. This program is absolutely free for the visitors
Vacation Hobby Programme
During vacation centre organizes hobby camps in the area of Physics, Chemistry, Electronics and Astronomy. Participants of the camp get hands on experience on experimentation and skill to prepare science kits.
Commemorative Events
Various activities are arranged for students, parents and general public during many commemorative days of national and international importance. National Science Day, International Museums Day, World Environment Day, World Population Day, World Science Day, Engineers’ Day etc. are few such commemorative days.
Science Demonstration Lectures
Interactive science demonstration shows are conducted on topics like Science is Fun, Unexpected Science, Science Vs Miracle, Electricity & Magnetism etc., inside and outside the centre. These lectures carry science to mass effectively as the participants have the opportunity of seeing the science.
Community Training Programmes
Community Science Programmes are organised periodically to create awareness among general public, youth and women on various topics such as techniques of house hold chemicals, Bakery training, Soap Making, candle making etc.,
Science Fair
This activity is aimed at providing a forum for school students to pursue their natural curiosity and inventiveness to quench their thirst for creativity. It is initially held at the block and district levels and there after at the State level. Winners of the State level Science fairs will participate in the Southern India Science fair.
Science Quiz
The centre organizes Annual Science Quiz for high school students of Gulbarga and Yadgiri Districts every year. Preliminary elimination round will be conducted usually in the month of July and other rounds such as quarter final, semifinal will be completed by December. Final Round will be held during Centre’s anniversary week.
Science Drama
It provides a stage to the students and teachers to disseminate scientific knowledge in an interactive way and make science learning interesting among the children. It is an effective medium to popularize science & technology and helps to remove blind beliefs in the society. Usually it is held at block level, District level, Divisional level, State level etc.,
Science Seminar
It provides a platform to the High Schools students to express their ideas and views of the current topics in science & technology. Every year in collaboration with Education Department Centre organizes block & Dist. Level Science Seminar in the month of July / August .
Electronics Fair
This provides a platform to the students of the ITI & polytechnic students of Gulbarga city to exhibit their talents & to explore their ideas in the area of Electronics. Every year in the month of March centre organises electronic Fair. During this fair seminar, model presentation, quiz and PSL by eminent speaker are conducted for the students.
Teachers Training/workshop
The main objective is to make science teaching more student-friendly and easy to understand through low cost teaching aids. The participants leave with lots of new creative ideas to convert the theories into three-dimensional interactive kits and models. The duration of the training is 2-3 days and is organised once or twice in a year, in collaboration with Education Department. Class room communication techniques for improving the efficiency of teaching are also imparted in the training programme.
Mobile Science Exhibition
It is a programme meant for rural schools. MSE has a bus fitted with 20 working models based on General Science, a Science Demonstration Lecture. A three member team visits with this bus and stay in a rural school for one or two days and organize the programme for the children & public. This bus visits at least 60 sites per year carrying the message of Science to nook and corner of the North Karnataka.
